Remember that you have to make sure you LOOK the part BEFORE going on TV. Here is a partial checklist of things you need to consider to present yourself as a professional baseball player:
 . Clothes
. Jewelry
. Props (if any)
. Posture
. Facial expressions
 . Head movement
. Body movement
. Hand movement
It's not that your style is MORE important than what you say. What you say is what counts. But no one is going to focus on or remember what you say if your style (clothes, jewelry, etc.) is taking the audience's attention AWAY from your message. So get your visual image smoothed out before you even think about what message you will communicate during your TV interview. Then you...and your audience...is free to focus on your message, as well as your professionalism!

You've got an interview coming up with the media. That used to cause at least some fear, but fear no more.

Many veteran baseball players who have had lots of media interviews said the key to success is rehearsal. Just like you practice for the game, you need to rehearse for the interview.

Why?

Because the best way to seem spontaneous is to rehearse. Not rehearsing because you want to seem spontaneous fools no one, so forget about it.

If you want to appear to be good at thinking on your feet, spend time thinking on your seat by writing down notes, outlines, bullet points, and/or potential questions and answers.

Even if it is just one hour before your interview, you must spend time rehearsing. If even for a few mintues. A little is better than none. Be professional, rehearse, and listen for those rave reviews coming your way!

Yes, there will be those times when you are interviewed on the spot and unable to rehearse, but rehesarse when you can.

1. Identify three message points. Get all three of your message points out in your very first answer.
2. Have your entire message (still three points) written out in front of you on a 3x5 index card.
3. Look at it throughout the interview.
4. If you are booked on a one-hour talk show, remember the audience changes every 15 minutes, so you must repeat your message constantly.
5. Have your three message points and sound bites written out in front of you during the interview
6. Don’t read them!
