A Message to Players from the Students BEFORE your Visit:
“What bugs us the most is when you bore us with tons of abstract details disconnected from anything WE care about or that applies to OUR lives. Please LISTEN to us, too! We are so easy to please: just tell us a few interesting messages using stories and examples. Give us some good advice. Throw in a little passion and we’ll be telling people forever how YOU inspired us!"

3 Easy Steps to Each Classroom Visit
|
Step 1 - Player Prep Before Visit
Before players visit classrooms, they learn how to tell a purposeful story based on the principles found in Peter Guber's book Tell to Win. Player will use the purposeful storytelling strategy during their classroom visit to share one of their own success strategies such as turning minor setbacks into major comebacks (Adron Chambers), not letting anyone steal your dream (Frank Francisco), and the importance of finding your purpose in life (Todd Cunningham). |
Teachers and students are also prepared for the player's visit.
Teachers are provided a lesson plan aligned to Common Core State Standards written to prepare students for college and career. The lesson plan has students compose a "quick write" which is a journal entry on how they have used one of Sam Hairston's three success strategies to reach a goal. This provides a common starting discussion point for both the students and the visiting player.

Step 2 - Players Teach Students During Class Visit
Watch the video clip for a peak into a classroom visit by player Todd Cunningham of the Atlanta Braves during the Arizona Fall League 2011. Todd masterfully shows what flies, Beatles, and sheep have to do with Hairston's three success strategies, and how students can apply that knowledge to reach their goals. |

Step 3 - After the Classroom Visit, Thank-You Letters to Players
Following the visit, students compose thank you letters delivered to players. Students are also encouraged to compose personal narratives or stories about how they will use the strategies discussed to reach a goal. Many times the player continues to remain in contact with the class to keep up with how they are progressing towards their goals
